Italian start-up Potemine presents Alis, a lighting device that is portable, multifunctional and interconnected. Alis introduces a completely new way of living with light, thanks to the IOT technology and its intuitive design that allows the user to create flexible lighting systems in places where it wasn’t possible before. With almost 4 years in development, this entirely self-funded project is set to be launched via a crowd-funding campaign this month. A powerful portable lighting device, Alis can be controlled with simple gestures. A series of accessories and a patented mechanism turns Alis into a wall, floor or a desk lamp, as a “one light fits all” system. The three different bases also work as USB-C fast chargers. The custom app unlocks new features, allowing the user to create a network of lights where every Alis becomes a controller of all other devices. The lamp employs an advanced accelerometer that transforms movements into signals that adjust the brightness of one device or the whole system. A built-in wifi module creates a decentralised mesh and allows communications between the devices. If one lamp is not working the others will still be able to communicate with one another The shape of the light stems from the art of sculpting. Inspired by the work of the masters like Brancusi and Sabattini, the design team created a symmetric balance between hundred years old shapes and breakthrough technology. Potemine is a tech startup based between Turin, Ivrea and Milan, a strategic triangle where technology and design made history. Constant experiment and research in new functions are at the basics of the company founded by Ilia Potemine, a young Italo Russian designer whose early works were exhibited in design galleries like Dilmos Milan, Bensimon Paris and Mint London.
