A supper of British sharing plates will be prepared by Anthropologists of Eating

The Modern House is launching a new supper club series to gather friends in surprising spaces – and were pleased to extend an exclusive invitation to a subscriber and their guest.

For our inaugural event on the evening of Wednesday 18 October, we’re partnering with The New Craftsmen for a lively conversation between architect Simon Astridge and designer and artist Gareth Neal.

Over a supper prepared by Anthropologists of Eating and wines from Journeys End, Simon and Gareth will explore the deep links between craft and architecture.

With a shared appreciation of craftsmanship, their discussion will highlight the connections in their collaborative approaches, processes and attitudes to making across their disciplines.

As Simon noted, It’s very much about looking at all of the crafts and thinking about how we can bring them together in the design of a space…it was the Sociologist Richard Sennet who observed: ‘Every good craftsmen conducts a dialogue between concrete practices and thinking; this dialogue evolves into sustaining habits, and these habits establish a rhythm between problem solving and problem finding.'

To win seats at the table for you and a guest, leave a comment with your view on the link between craft and architecture beneath our event post on The Modern House Instagram and @tag the name of your guest.
